Yesterday filled my whole soul. I went to the Brandy and Monica Tour, and the energy was pure electricity. Loud speakers and waves of nostalgia poured out of every corner of the venue. We were singing, laughing, reliving the soundtracks of our childhoods and teenage years. I had already seen the beautiful Monica live years ago, and let me tell you, that woman has some pipes. And then there was Brandy. Seeing the Vocal Bible live was more than entertainment. It was the kind of moment that hits you right in the chest. Her voice, the layers, the tone, the richness, wrapped itself around the entire arena. For me, it went even deeper. She was one of the first people who made it cool, beautiful, and powerful to rock braids as a signature style. Her influence shaped pieces of my identity long before I had language for it. That feeling in that moment was happiness. Pure and simple.

Defining Your State of Wellbeing

ree

Experiences like this remind us why it’s important to pause and notice joy. Happiness is funny. It feels so obvious in our bodies, yet it can be slippery when we try to define it. Is it joy, contentment, satisfaction, or fulfillment? The answer is almost always all of the above. Sometimes happiness is right-now-in-the-moment, like at that concert. Other times it is the bigger picture, the sense that life, while imperfect, feels meaningful.

But how do we really know when we are happy? For many of us, it shows up as more positive days than negative ones, a sense of gratitude, a feeling of purpose, or an inner steadiness even when life gets loud. The truth is, happiness is a state of wellbeing, not a permanent address. Even the happiest people feel anger, sadness, and frustration at times. Happiness is not about avoiding the hard stuff; it is about tending to yourself along the way.

The Work: Reclaiming Your Happiness Home

ree

Many people say wellness is a priority, but real talk? Most of us are still learning how to actually live like it is. We want change, we set goals, we imagine our best selves, yet life keeps life-ing and our own happiness slips to the bottom of the list. Not long ago, I challenged us to look for the good on purpose, because it is so easy to overlook the beauty in our lives. In my work, I’ve spent years helping people believe in what’s possible and reminding them that emotional hygiene isn’t optional. It is survival. And the more I leaned into that truth, the clearer and happier I became, even when life didn’t get easier. So today, I’m inviting you join in on a new 7-Day Happiness List Challenge.

Your Happiness Is Non-Negotiable

ree

We live in a world that tells us to grind harder, push faster, and keep going no matter the cost. And many of us do, right up until burnout knocks the wind out of us. Burnout steals your joy long before it steals your energy. The people I admire most, the ones who embody fulfillment, treat their wellbeing as a non-negotiable. They build joy into the routine. They protect their peace like it is treasure. Because it is. Reclaiming happiness is a conscious choice. A daily decision. A willingness to ask yourself, "What actually makes me happy? And how can I honor that today?" The life you want doesn’t show up all at once; it shows up in tiny, intentional choices. So this week, instead of waiting for life to slow down, choose yourself. Choose a gentler rhythm. Choose to come home to your happiness, bit by bit, day by day.

The 7-Day Happiness List Challenge

Your happiness deserves your attention. Your presence. Your pause. Here are seven simple focus points to guide you through the next week and help you reconnect with what lights you up and fills your inner world.

Day 1

List the greatest compliments and encouragement you have ever been given.

Day 2

List the happiest people you know.

Day 3

List the ways you can "fake it till you make it" in being happy.

Day 4

List the things you are ready to rid yourself of (things in your home, in your closet, in your heart etc.).

Day 5

List the things (from your past and present) that feel like blockades in the way of happiness

Day 6

List the projects you have been meaning to work on and finish.

Day 7

List the things, people, and experiences you want to say yes to.

As you move into this week, give yourself permission to slow down and really witness your life. The joy, the ease, the tiny glimmers you might normally overlook are already there, waiting to be acknowledged. Happiness is not something we chase; it is something we nurture. Let this challenge be your invitation to look inward, breathe deeper, and honor the pieces of your life that make you feel alive. You deserve a happiness that feels steady, rooted, and real. And it all begins with one small choice at a time.

As always, I appreciate your readership and would love to hear from you in the comments below. What things made your 7-day happiness list? Please remember that wherever you are on this wellness journey, do not worry about getting it perfect; just get it going. Until next time. Happy reading!
